Moving house is said to be one of the most stressful events in a persons life. With so much to do, the best way to tackle a house move is to have a plan in place. Our team have put together a handy timeline to help you with your planning and take the stress out of your day. It may also remind you of some of the essentials tasks you need to accomplish before moving day!
6 Weeks Before Moving Day
- Prepare inventory list for all your items to be packed
- Create a list of who will need to be notified of your new address
- Pack up any “non-everyday” items
- Start using up freezer food
- Declutter with a garage sale
3 Weeks Before Moving Day
- Notify important bodies of your new address ie banks
- Redirect post with Australian Post
- Cancel any local subscriptions ie library
- Advise utility companies of your disconnection date & reconnection date at new address
- Book cleaners if a vacate clean is needed
- Book in child and/or pet sitters for moving day if required
2 Weeks Before Moving Day – Secure Your Moving Essentials
- Book moving truck/van and boxes
- Book the essential accessories to make moving easier: trolleys (fridge, piano), blankets, straps, ramps
1 Week Before Moving Day
- Confirm details with your moving truck provider
- Purchase packing boxes and equipment – start packing room by room
- Create a Handyman Box (odd items) & Priority Box (keys, chargers etc)
- Prepare your electronics – Back up computers
- Clear out shed/garage. Drain fluids from items like lawnmower
- Start packing – Pack away any items you can do without between now and your first night
1 Day Before Moving Day
- Defrost freezer, clean out the fridge and unplug
- Drain water from the washing machine
- Finish packing
- Give each family member a Personal Box to fill with items they need on their first night
- Priority Box should be placed in the kitchen
Moving Day!
- Collect your moving van/truck
- Remember to leave any keys/garage door keys behind
- Leave a forwarding address for the new occupants
